Princess & Pirate Party!

It's my princesses!! We had a pirate and princess party so we could invite all the boys too! It was so much fun! We had a plank to walk out front, a big pirate flag on the front of the house (neighbors prob thought we were a little strange), and all kinds of food...golden nuggets, pirate's booty, cannon balls, rubies, emeralds and more! The cakes were two different flavors...one was strawberry and the other was lemon. I also made some chocolate cupcakes with pirate flags in them so everything wasn't so pink!! I think my girls had a great time...I know I did! All the girls left with tutu's, and the boys left with swords, pirate hats, and eye patches!

This is obviously a violin cake. I was asked to do it by our close family friends. It was for her Dad's 80th birthday! He plays the fiddle and carves violins/fiddles out of wood. He is very talented! He is also friends with my granparents! This is mostly buttercream with small fondant accents. I had to make it in 2 pieces so it would fit in the fridge and travel.

This was for a family friend. Jill got married at the beginning of January. I used a stencil design on here with black buttercream. It sounds easier than it was! I was really pleased with the design! My little girls got to be the flower girls in Jill's wedding. That was their first time to ever be in a wedding...so it will always be a special event to us! Even if one of them didn't make it down the aisle.

I thought it was going to be harder than it was, but the only issue we had was the "gray" fondant turned purplish by the time I delivered it to her. It was for her cousin. This Cake and these Cookies were for Jill's shower. She is a childhood friend of my husbands family. I got to help with her shower and was honored to be a part! My girls are going to be her flower girls in her January wedding! The crazy thing that happened to this cake was that it sat in the car while we were at church and the top pink border FADED! I was horrified! No one made a big deal out of it, so it was fine...and hopefully I have learned my lesson!?!? Once again a zebra cake...I love them now!

This cake was a first for several reasons. It was a new customer, always makes me nervous! It was also my first zebra cake! It really wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be. Dying the fondant black went really quick and then I just made the crazy stripes. I wish I had done dots on the bottom layer of this 1st birthday cake as well...wasn't a fan of the pink stripes after the zebra was done! FUN!

Volleyball

A friend of ours is the head volleyball coach for a local team. She was having senior and parent night tonight and asked me to make the cakes. Each of the seniors had their own "volleyball" cake with their name and # on it. I made the volleyball out of white cake and covered it with fondant and just did indentions for the seams so it would be more "real" looking. The big cake is practically neopolitan...bottom layer chocolate, purple layer strawberry, and the top white. She needed to feed a lot of people!

This is to celebrate my wonderful husband's birthday. My girls helped cut the pickles and tomatoes out of fondant, and I sliced the cheese out of fondant as well. He doesn't like mayo on his burgers, but I wanted to incorporate the white instead of more red (ketchup) like he likes his. Tomorrow he turns 31! Hope he likes his cake...it is a surprise!

Bowden's Bowling Cake

Crazy...I got two requests for bowling themed cakes in the same week. One is Bowden's and the other is for a brother and sister in October -sharing a party! I know it is hard to tell by the picture, but the pins have Bowden's name on them. So there are 6 pins for his 6th birthday and his name! I also put 6 lbs on the ball for the 6th birthday! This cake is a from scratch chocolate with fluffy buttercream icing and fondant accents. The cake seems really big, but it is because I made the first two layers two short (accidently), so I had to make one more layer! It is completely edible-ball, pins and all!

Greg and I delivered Amber's cake just a few hours ago. I absolutely loved her choice of flowers. They were gorgeous. She chose a deep plum colored ribbon for the base of each layer along with alternating designs. The random swirl pattern mimicked another cake I had done, and we tied in the dots with the pattern. Her cake choice was traditional white but with cream cheese icing between the layers. Yummy.

I made this cake for April Grant. Her mom and sister actually met with me first and picked out everything! Her mom, Paula is so great! April's cake was lemon through and through with strawberry icing between each layer, and it had of course the buttercream exterior. Each layer had the same center design complemented by the pink and green layered ribbon.

Here is the bride's cake I did this weekend! It is hard to see because I forgot my camera! Yeah...real professional of me! It is all square layers of strawberry and white cake with cream cheese between and a buttercream exterior. The exterior is designed with royal blue ribbon and small dots, the top layer is adorned with their initials.

Here is my proudest groom's cake! Yep that's right, it is a bass fish! I am not a fondant girl...I never recommend it, and I usually steer people away from choosing it. This groom wanted a fish...he didn't care what icing I used. I went with the fondant so I could paint the fish...I must say I was pretty satisfied with the results! The bride's cake was a new design to my collection. I really liked it. It is scroll work with a different flair, and it looked really pretty with the red she chose!
